Wedding Banner

2009 November 2

Recently, I was married in a fun and casual backyard party wedding. Since it wasn’t in a more traditional location, all the decorating was up to us. I wanted to make a few simple touches that were special but still kept the feel of the party wedding in mind.

One of the decorations I had a hard time coming up with was something to dress up the area where the ceremony would be performed. I went back and forth about standards with fabric banners on it, arranged candles or something else. It was a tough decision.

At the beginning of August, I discovered the Moda Bake Shop website. It’s a great place for inspiration, whether you use Moda fabrics, or not! One post led me to Jen Duncan’s website, chock full of wonder and pretties. This banner was my inspiration for a way to decorate the ceremony area.

Here’s my project, made from scrap fabrics one spool of grosgrain ribbon and coordinating thread. I attempted the method Jen describes in the tutorial of backing the letters with interfacing, but found that my sewing machine needle became gummy when stitching the letters. I could have been using the wrong sort of interfacing. Interfacing is confusing to me!
